Franklin County 58, George Washington 40
Despite Bri Fitzgerald’s double-double, George Washington fell to Franklin County, 58-40, in the semifinals of the Western Valley District tournament Thursday night in Rocky Mount.
Fitzgerald finished with 16 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks for GW (14-6). Khadijah Wilson added eight points and Deynesha Goods scored six points.
Laprecious England and Courtney Martin each had four points. GW hosts Patrick Henry at 7 p.m. Monday for the Western Valley District’s third seed in the Northwest Region tournament.
Faith-Hurt 49, Westover Christian 38, OT
Peyton Parrish scored 15 points and added 10 rebounds and four steals in Westover’s 49-38 overtime loss to Faith-Hurt.
Katelyn Holley had 12 points and four steals, while Frankie Lynn Yates had six points and six rebounds for the Bulldogs (7-13, 2-4 VACA).
BOYS PREP BASKETBALL
Dan River 88, Gretna 48
Dan River senior Devante Davis recorded his second straight double-double with 21 points, 11 assists and three rebounds in Dan River’s 88-48 thrashing of Gretna in both teams’ regular season finale.
Shun Brooks added 20 points, four rebounds and three steals for Dan River (20-0, 12-0 Dogwood), the top-ranked team in The Associated Press Group A state poll. Trey Edmunds added 14 points, 10 rebounds and three assists, while Carlos Harper finished with 12 points.
Dip Pannell led Gretna (7-11, 6-6) with 19 points.
