Lynchburg School Board approves head football coach hires

The Lynchburg City School Board approved new head football coach hires at Heritage & E.C. Glass High Schools this evening (Tuesday).

Ben Martin will take over at E.C. Glass, coming from Appomattox.

Brad Bradley will take over at Heritage, coming from Amelia County, and former Patrick Henry H.S. and William Campbell H.S. head coach.

At tonight’s meeting, the Lynchburg City School Board appointed head football coaches for both E. C. Glass High School and Heritage High School.  These two coaches will begin their coaching and teaching responsibilities on July 1, 2012.

Ben Martin is the new head coach at E. C. Glass High School.

• For the past 4 seasons, Coach Martin has served as the head football coach at Appomattox County High School.
  • His teams in Appomattox captured two Dogwood District championships (2009 and 2011), secured three playoff berths, and compiled an overall record of 32-13 (a winning percentage of 71.1%).
  • The 2011 team was undefeated in regular season district play and Coach Martin was named 2011 Dogwood District Coach of the Year.
  • Prior to Martin’s arrival at Appomattox, the Raiders had not won a district football championship in more than ten years.
  • Coach Martin led Appomattox to its first playoff wins (in 2009 and 2011) since 1979.
• Prior to serving as head coach at Appomattox, Coach Martin served as an assistant coach under Scott Abell at Amherst County High School.  During that time, Amherst compiled a record of 47-5 and won two AA State Championships.  The Lancers’ undefeated 2007 state champion team ended the season ranked number 14 nationally.

Brad Bradley is the new head coach at Heritage High School. 

• During the 2011 football season, Coach Bradley led Amelia County High School to the state championship game.  Prior to the 2011 season, Amelia County had never won a playoff game. 
• Before coaching at Amelia County, Coach Bradley’s William Campbell teams won two state championships (2002 and 2005) and were state semi-finalists in 2003, 2004, and 2008.  Under his tenure, William Campbell won four Dogwood District championships, five Region B championships, and compiled an overall record of 84-23. 
• After the 2008 season, Coach Bradley left William Campbell to resurrect the football program at Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke.  In his second season at Patrick Henry, the football team posted its first winning season in ten years. 
•   Coach Bradley has received a number of coaching honors, including the Virginia High School Coaches Association Region A Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2005, The News and Advance Coach of the Year in 2005, and the Region B Coach of the Year in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2008.
