Elizabethton took control with a four-run first inning and answered a Danville sixth-inning rally in a 9-5 victory Monday night in the second game of a three-game series in Elizabethton.

Brett Oberholtzer surrendered a season-high five runs in five innings of work and was credited with the loss. The southpaw had not given up more than three runs in an outing prior to Monday night and it was just the second time since July 4 that Oberholtzer had not pitched at least six innings.

Elizabethton (36-18) struck with four runs in the first, the last two capped off by a home run by Anderson Hidalgo.

The D-Braves (37-17) cut the deficit to 5-4 after scoring three runs in the top of the sixth inning with two outs. Jordan Kreke and Daniel Elorriaga-Matra were both hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing home a run each time. A single by Matt Weaver in between the two hit batters accounted for the three runs.

The Twins countered with three runs in the bottom of the inning, all coming on a three-run homer by Daniel Rohlfing.

All but one Danville batter had a hit and Weaver was the only D-Brave to have multiple hits, recording three in four at bats.

Edgar Ibarra picked up the win, allowing one run over five innings of work.

Earlier Monday, the D-Braves announced that catcher Jace Whitmer was transferred to the Gulf Coast League Braves. The 2009 17th-round draft pick hit .242 (23-95) with four doubles and five RBI in 25 games with Danville this season, splitting his time between catcher and designated hitter.
