Tunstall boys capture Piedmont track and field championship

Tunstall’s Buddy Brown was named the Piedmont District boys track Coach of the Year and Bryan Swann earned recognition for male Athlete of the Year as the Trojans’ boys captured the district championship at Laurel Park Middle School.

LAUREL PARK — Tunstall’s Buddy Brown was named the Piedmont District boys track Coach of the Year and Bryan Swann earned recognition for male Athlete of the Year as the Trojans’ boys captured the district championship at Laurel Park Middle School.

Tunstall scored 178 points to best Bassett (144), Martinsville (135), Patrick County (17) and Magna Vista (15).

Swann placed first in the 800-meter run (2:06.2), 1,600-meter run (4:50.0) and 3,200-meter run (10:51.0). LaMarcus Adkins placed first in the 110 high hurdles (14.82) and 300 hurdles (40.11) , while JaQuan Hubbard placed first in the triple jump (43-2½) and second in the 110 high hurdles (15.88).

Rannon Jones was first in the discus (130-0) and Brandon Walton won the 200 dash (22.14). Tunstall’s 1,600 relay team also place first (3:35.0).

Tunstall finished last out of five teams in girls action. Bassett won the meet with a score of 117½, followed by Magna Vista (111½), Martinsville (104), Patrick County (85) and Tunstall (73).

Tunstall’s Kyana Smith won the long jump (15-0) and triple jump (33-1).

Magna Vista’s Jackie Greene won Piedmont District girls Coach of the Year and Tea Carla Wade was presented the female Athlete of the Year award.
