Orioles bust up D-Braves

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — The Bluefield Orioles jumped on the Danville Braves early, scoring four runs in the second inning, and never let up in cruising to an 11-1 victory Wednesday night.

Danville (25-23) never really had a chance in this one as Bluefield starter Kenny Moreland (4-3) handcuffed the D-Braves through five innings of work, allowing four hits and striking out four. Moreland did escape a jam in the fourth, as the Braves had the bases loaded with two outs, but Jesus Sucre popped up in the infield to end that threat.

Braves starter Julio Teheran (1-1) did not survive through the second inning, only recording five outs before being pulled. Teheran allowed all four runs in the second, on three hits and two walks. The right hander did strike out four. Paul Clemens pitched three innings in relief, allowing six runs — only one earned — on five hits.

Elvin Polanco drove in four runs for the Orioles on two doubles. Robert Stevens added three more RBIs for Bluefield (22-24).

For the D-Braves, the highlight came in the ninth inning. With one out and runners on first and second, Will White grounded to Stevens at short, who stepped on second for the second out, but his throw to first was wild, allowing Camilo Parra to score the lone run for the Braves.
