Morehead soccer falls at home

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Northeast Guilford jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead, got another goal thanks to a little help from Morehead in the second half and came away with a 5-1 win in Eden.
MHS, which dropped to 11-8 overall and 4-8 in the Triad 3-A Conference, will return to action tonight at home against Bartlett Yancey. The Lady Panthers end the regular season Thursday night at Northern Guilford. A win in the next two games would most likely put MHS in the state playoffs.
Kelsey Perhale got the scoring started at the 13-minute mark with an unassisted goal, while Paige Hatfield scored from 30 yards out eight minutes later.
At the 34-minute mark, Tunasia Pollard scored to make it 3-0.
Northeast got some assistance seven minutes into the second half as MHS knocked in a ball in its own goal to make the deficit four.
Alexi Saxanich scored the final Northeast goal at the 61-minute mark.
Britney Irwin got MHS on the scoreboard with four minutes left in the game as she scored off an assist from Keely Snyder.
Northeast recorded 18 shots and one corner kick, while MHS had 15 shots and three corner kicks
“That second goal and that first goal in the second half really hurt us,” MHS coach Ken Price said. “We had a lot of opportunities, but the difference was that they finished and we didn’t.
Tonight’s game with the Lady Buccaneers will begin at 6 p.m.
