Wildcats notch first district win
RINGGOLD — Dan River defeated Altavista 3-2 on Wednesday to earn its first Dogwood District win of the season. Joey McCurry went 3-for-3 with two doubles to lead the Wildcats (3-5, 1-2 Dogwood). Cody Shotwell added an RBI single and David Francis struck out seven and allowed just five hits.
Cory Shelhorse led Altavista with a double and a single.
Hylton homer helps Trojans top McMichael
DRY FORK — Brett Hylton hit his seventh home run of the season, and his Tunstall Trojans went on to beat McMichael 14-7 on Wednesday.
Hylton had a three-run home run to go with a single and four RBIs and Joe Mantiply pitched the Trojans (10-0, 3-0 Piedmont) to the win, striking out 10 while surrendering only five hits.
Ian Haynes had three singles for Tunstall, while Justin Thompson had a two-run double and Will Hardy added another double for the Trojans.
Tunstall will be on the road on Friday at Halifax County.
The junior varsity Trojans also beat McMichael on Wednesday as Shawn Clowers struck out seven for Tunstall (8-2, 1-2 Piedmont). Holt Cassada and Dylan Cook both had two hits for the Trojans.
Junior varsity Raiders down Hawks
GRETNA — Despite two hits apiece from Jason Inge, Kevin Hogan and Brandon Meadows, the junior varsity Gretna Hawks fell to Appomattox 15-6 on Wednesday.
Gretna (1-6, 0-3 Dogwood) will play at Dan River on Friday.

Sulter throws no-hitter as GW blanks William Fleming
DANVILLE — Amber Sulter tossed a no-hitter as George Washington rolled Western Valley District foe William Fleming 17-0 in five innings on Wednesday. The freshman struck out 13 and walked two. Sulter also went 2-for-2 at the plate for the Eagles (2-6, 1-0 WVD).
Erica Warren went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Courtney Burner was 3-for-3 with an RBI and Taylor Talley was 2-for-4 with three runs batted in. Claire Francisco also drove in a run.
Hannah Shumaker tosses perfect game for Bucs
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. — Hannah Shumaker pitched a perfect game for the Bartlett Yancey Buccaneers on Wednesday as they beat Western Guilford 11-0.
Shumaker struck out 11 in five innings for her eighth win of the season. BY (15-0, 9-0 Triad) was led at the plate by a 3-for-4 effort from Ashley Guill and a 2-for-4 day by Rachel Shumaker.
The Bucs will be on the road at Rockingham on Friday.
