Hargrave’s Giannini strikes out 15, hurls no-hitter
LYNCHBURG — Cameron Giannini tossed no-hitter and struck out 15 as Hargrave Military Academy defeated Liberty Christian Academy 3-2 on Tuesday. Zach Goodyear went 3-for-4 with adouble and two RBIs for Hargrave (5-3, 3-0), while Giannini added a pair of base hits and Mike Rodriguez and Josh Rogers each smacked a single.

Tunstall blanks Bassett in Piedmont District opener
BASSETT — Joe Mantiply hurled a two-hitter and struck out 12 as Tunstall shut out Bassett 6-0 in its Piedmont District opener on Tuesday.
B.J. Harlow belted a two-run homer and a single, Ian Haynes had a home run and a single, Dustin Cockram hit a solo home run and Justin Thompson and Travis Wray each connected for a pair of base hits.
Tunstall (7-0, 1-0) visits Patrick County on Friday.
In junior varsity action, Bassett defeated Tunstall 3-1, dealing the Trojans their first loss of the season. Matt Jones, Chad Roach, Holt Cassada and Matt Clear all had singles for Tunstall (6-1, 0-1).

Dan River drops Liberty Christian for first victory
LYNCHBURG — Dan River scored twice in the second inning and hung on to defeat Liberty Christian 2-0 for its first victory of the season Tuesday.
David Francis struck out eight and pitched a complete-game two-hitter for the Wildcats. Nathan Kendrick and Joey McCurry rapped out RBI singles in the second inning, Matt Edwards smacked a double and Marcus Thornton and Cody Shotwell each had a base hit for Dan River (1-4), which visits Appomattox today.

Tunstall puts on a clinic against Bassett
BASSETT — Tunstall rebounded from a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Cave Spring by obliterating formerly undefeated Bassett 19-1 in five innings in the Trojan’s Piedmont District opener on Tuesday. Tunstall scored in every inning and hung 10 runs on the board in the fourth.
Brittany Arnn struck out nine and walked none while pitching a one-hitter. She also smashed a double and a home run in accumulating four RBIs. Sarah Smith crushed three hits, including a triple, and recorded five RBIs. Nicole Barbour had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs, Jenna Rudder smacked a pair of doubles and Molly Nanney and Alyssa Dougherty each connected for two base hits.
Tunstall (5-2, 1-0 Piedmont) visits Patrick County on Friday.
In junior varsity action, Tunstall defeated Bassett 8-2. Taylor Dix smacked a triple and two singles and pitched a three-hitter for the Trojans. Alex Seamster added two singles and Kyla Moorefield and Morgan Distad had base hits.

Bartlett Yancey dismantles Northeast Guilford
MCLEANSVILLE — Undefeated Bartlett Yancey dismantled Northeast Guilford 12-0 in Triad Conference action on Tuesday.
Hannah Shoemaker struck out 10 and surrendered four hits to earn the win for BY (11-0, 5-0 Triad). Katie Crews belted two doubles and collected three RBIs and Shoemaker and Jessica Gwynn each went 2-for-4 at the plate.
