LYNCHBURG — George Washington placed fifth out of 22 teams at the Bradford Relays at E.C. Glass on Saturday, despite competing in only five events.
Justin Ferrell, Travis Tarpley, Javis Petty and David Wilson placed first in the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:31.85, and a team of Tarpley, Ferrell, Wilson and Tharien Harrison placed second in the 400 relay in 43.37 seconds. Both teams qualified for regional competition.
Wilson won the triple jump (47-3 ¾) to qualify for regionals and states and placed fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.35). Terrance Cooper was eighth in the shot put (45-1) and qualified for district and regionals.
For the girls, Panganyika Betts was third in the high jump (5-0) and sixth in triple jump (33-7) and qualified for regionals in both events.
For the junior varsity boys, D.J. Benion placed first in 100 dash with a time of 11.36 seconds. The next closest person had a time of 11.97.
GW visits Halifax County on Monday and is back at E.C. Glass on Wednesday.
