The Democrats' usual theatrics

»  Comments | Post a Comment

To the editor:

Is it political theater on the part of the local Democratic Party to place letters from allegedly low-income seniors to discuss hot button matters favoring the DNC platform? If true, the most recent letter, "Hands off my check" (Jan. 21, page A8), may be an example to this trend.

Rep. Robert Hurt provides weekly updates on his activities and encourages his constituents to contact him on matters for further clarification. The letter’s author stated that "A group of voters in Danville has been requesting that Congressman Hurt meet publicly with low-income seniors to discuss Social Security and to pinpoint Hurt’s stance on Social Security." This nation, for approximately 48 months, has been in a campaign mode, enough to last a lifetime. Enough is enough.

I suggest that instead of demonstrating in front of Rep. Hurt’s local office to voice your opinions that you appoint a representative from your select group, knock on the damn door and sit down peacefully to discuss your agenda with a staff member. Fact gathering is an appropriate means of getting to the answer you are seeking. I am sure that if you insist in a professional manner that your goal of speaking to Rep. Hurt would be achieved, peacefully and respectively. This is a two-way street you are walking.

Then if you are not satisfied, write letters to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and President Barack Obama and ask them to conduct and inquire into the facts and circumstances behind what is holding our nation at a standstill. You want a better representation and during the current administration bills to improve your life and the lifestyles of others remain bottled up by the Democratic Senate majority. We seek change.
