A two-vehicle crash on N.C. 704 on Jan. 18 claimed the life of Mary Eppley, an 85-year-old King resident.
According to Trooper Michael Elrod of the N.C. State Highway Patrol, Eppley was a passenger in a 1995 Nissan truck driven by her son-in-law, Larry Noah. Noah, 53, of Walnut Cove, was traveling east on N.C. Highway 704 shortly after 5 p.m. last Wednesday when the accident occurred.
Linda Joyce, 50, of Madison, was driving a 2005 Ford F-350 west on 704 about two miles outside Madison. Elrod said Joyce’s truck struck Noah’s nearly head-on when Joyce attempted to turn into a driveway across the eastbound lane. Elrod said Joyce did not see Noah’s truck approaching.
Madison-Rockingham Rescue Squad responded to the accident and had to use the Jaws of Life to remove Eppley and Noah from their vehicle.
Eppley was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital by EMS. She died from her injuries about 2:20 a.m. last Thursday.
Noah suffered head injuries from the crash and was airlifted to Baptist Hospital, where he is expected to fully recover.
Joyce was not injured in the accident.
Elrod said Joyce was charged with failure to yield and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
