Fire destroyed a mobile home at 1503 Honey Road in Pittsylvania County on Tuesday afternoon. No one was injured.
When Jerry Gentry, a Bachelors Hall volunteer firefighter heard the call at 1:55 p.m., he was traveling in the area and saw the smoke. When he arrived, the front end of the home at Lot 8 was fully on fire, he said. The fire started in a bedroom.
The rental home’s tenant, a woman, was standing outside when firefighters from Mount Hermon, Mount Cross and Tunstall volunteer fire departments arrived. No one else lived there.
Within 30 minutes, firefighters had the blaze extinguished aside from clean-up as it attacked the fire with two hoses spraying 2,000 gallons of water from one truck, Gentry said.
The Pittsylvania County fire marshal is investigating and the American Red Cross was contacted to help the tenant, Gentry said.
