A Sunday afternoon fire caused heavy damage to a duplex unit in Danville.

Shortly after noon, the Danville Fire Department received a call of a structure fire at 1214 Paxton St., according to a news release.

When crews first arrived, they found fire coming from one side of the structure.

“The building sustained moderate damage, which appeared to originate from the crawl space,” according to the release.

A second alarm was called for additional manpower to help contain the fire to what was described as a duplex.

Crews remained on scene for about three hours. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, the release stated.
