After a day that felt much like spring, winter weather appears to be on its way to the Dan River Region.
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory in effect from midnight to 6 a.m. Monday and predicts snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches Sunday.
The region can expect a mix of rain, snow and sleet to begin after daybreak Sunday. It should change over to snow in the afternoon in Pittsylvania County and will taper off to flurries Sunday night, according to the weather service. Higher accumulations are forecast in the northern part of the county.
Temperatures are expected to start in the upper 30s Sunday morning, but fall to the lower 30s throughout the day.
Roadways could become slick late Sunday afternoon.
“A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties,” the weather service stated. “Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.”
