For perhaps the first time this winter, there’s a chance of snow in the forecast Sunday.
But, don’t get those sleds out just yet. The Dan River Region may only see about an inch at best.
A storm system will move closer to the Atlantic and tap into a decent amount of moisture, according to WSLS Meteorologist Patrick McKee.
Less than an inch is forecast for Danville and Pittsylvania County. “The ground is warm and air temperatures Saturday will be warm and that should keep any accumulations quite light,” McKee said.
Not having cold air in place is “the fly in the ointment right now.”
The track of the system could change total snowfall amounts of the area, but not significantly.
“It looks like rain during the day is coming our way with the possibility for it mixing with snow,” said McKee. “During the evening on Sunday the changeover to snow is possible before everything ends.”
Any fallen snow won’t stick around for long. High temperatures are expected to reach the 50s Tuesday and possibly 60 by Thursday.
