A tractor in a shed probably caused the fire that burned property and damaged two houses in Bachelors Hall Tuesday, according to the Pittsylvania County fire marshal.
The fire’s only ignition source was likely in a small shed where the tractor stood, said Pittsylvania County Fire Marshal Steve Bowman. The blaze caused destruction on property at 77 Bowe St. in Bachelors Hall. It was reported at about 2:30 p.m. and brought under control in about half an hour.
Several crews responded to the call, including fire and rescue agencies from Bachelors Hall, Tunstall, Brosville and Cascade, as well as the Danville Lifesaving Crew.
The fire raged on about a half-acre of land between two homes and burned scrap metal, brush, a wood pile and a lawn mower and destroyed a shed with a tractor underneath it. It also caused mild damage to the homes. No one was in either dwelling, while one house was unoccupied.
