500 positions available at Danville job fair

There are more than 500 jobs available in the Danville area and a community-wide job fair is planned to help match people up with suitable jobs.

The Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce and the West Piedmont Workforce Investment Board are holding the job fair Oct. 6 at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

“As of today, there are 511 jobs available and more are coming in,” Kate Farmer, business services manager for the Chamber of Commerce, said Tuesday.

Attendees at the fair should be 18 years of age or older and be prepared to talk with prospective employers, Farmer said. She recommends dressing professionally and bringing multiple copies of resumes so each potential employer can have a copy. Children should not be brought to the job fair, Farmer said.

Farmer said there are jobs available in all categories.

“There are a lot of great opportunities in a broad range of jobs,” Farmer said. “There are manufacturing, health care, retail, professional services, positions with nonprofits, jobs in government and education. There are jobs for people from entry-level through college grads.”
