Two people were killed and another was injured late Friday night in a one-car crash on U.S. Highway 158 West near Reidsville.

According to a news release from the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, troopers from the North Carolina Highway Patrol and deputies from the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office were conducting a license check on U.S. 158 West near Woodlyn Drive in Reidsville.

According to the report, officers observed a vehicle turn around prior to entering the checkpoint and left the area at a high rate of speed in an apparent attempt to elude the checkpoint.

Officers attempted to locate the vehicle and found a red Ford Mustang overturned in the front yard of 13444 U.S. 158 West. The officers were able to extinguish a small fire coming from the motor of the vehicle and attempted to render aid to the occupants. The driver and one passenger were found to be deceased. A third passenger was airlifted to Baptist Hospital for treatment.

The victims were identified as driver Jesse Donnell Harrison, 41, of Ashley Loop Road and passenger April Lourdes Visaya, 24, of South Scales Street in Reidsville. The identity of the injured passenger had not been released as of Saturday afternoon.

The accident is currently under investigation by the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
