CHRISTMAS PARADE: The 45th Annual Draper Children's Christmas Parade will start at 11 a.m. on Fieldcrest Road in Eden. Touted as the largest parade in Rockingham County, the event will have plenty of candy and Santa Claus.

TREE OF HOPE LIGHTING CEREMONY: The Annie Penn Auxiliary will hold its annual Tree of Hope Lighting Ceremony at 4 p.m. beginning with the lighting at the live tree lighting at the Main Street entrance. Annie Penn Hospital employees and volunteers will provide musical entertainment, and holiday refreshments will be served in the Annie Penn Cafeteria following the outdoor tree lighting. The event is free and is open to the public. Individuals or groups may purchase lights for $5 or star lights for $25 to honor or remember a loved one during the holiday season. The Jaycees provide young people between the ages of 21 and 40 with the tools to build bridges to success for themselves in the areas of business development, management skills, individual training and community service. STATE PARK COOK BOOK: Copies of the new “Jawbone Trail Cookbook” are available at the temporary office of the Mayo River State Park, located at 2341 U.S. 220 Business in Mayodan. The cookbook is a naturally wonderful collection of treasured heritage recipes from N.C. State Parks’ staff members, family and friends. The 200 spiral-bound pages are filled with 294 recipes in 13 categories, as well as unique nature photographs and pen and ink drawings of animals, plants and insects from the N.C. State Parks. The books are $10 each and can be purchased at the office or by calling 427-2530.

LIVING SAFE AND STRONG: Help Inc. hosts a support group at the Madison-Mayodan Recreation Center for women 50 and older who have ever been victims of domestic violence or know someone who is a victim.
