You can wear blue jeans, but only if you have a black tie to match.
This year’s Black Tie and Blue Jeans fund-raiser for the Rockingham Pregnancy Care Center mixes upscale and comfortable for the ninth annual event.
The fund-raiser will feature a silent and live auction along with a buy-it-now room for vintage wedding dresses, a sampler of foods from restaurants across Rockingham County and a live auction. Gail Evans-Jones, executive director for the pregnancy care center, said it’s the center’s only fund-raiser for the year that produces much support from the community.
“I think it’s great for the community to come together and support this event and have a great time raising money for women and children in Rockingham County – that’s really what it’s all about,” she said.
The live auction has more than 50 items and counting. Guests can find deals on all sorts of goodies, including autographed sports memorabilia, a beach vacation package and new furniture. The silent auction will have an array of items like pottery, paintings and goods from various local businesses.
The event will also feature a new “buy-it-now room” that will hold vintage wedding dresses available for sale. Evans-Jones said it’s something that’s got the community buzzing.
“I think it’s going to be great, because women can come in here and get a one-of-a-kind wedding dress along with a hat and veil,” she said.
The fun starts at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at First Presbyterian Church, located at 582 Southwood Drive in Eden behind Wal-Mart. The event is free, but guests must call (336) 623-5540 to reserve their seats and to receive a bidding number.
Women wanting to try on wedding dresses and view them beforehand can stop by the church Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.
