The Aging, Disability and Transit Services of Rockingham County is partnering with the Rockingham County Free Clinic to offer free transportation to area residents who have appointments at the clinic but lack methods of transportation.
Rockingham Community Access Transit Services, operated by ADTS, will offer rides on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. To be eligible for the rides, clients must already have made an appointment at the free clinic.
RCATS operates 21 vans that provide door-to-door services.
ADTS is a nonprofit agency that helps provide senior citizens and people with disabilities with access to information and services that might benefit them. Some of their services include Home Health, Meals on Wheels, Adult Day Care and RCATS.
“We are thrilled to be able to partner with the Free Clinic to provide much needed transportation for their clients,” said T. Lee Covington, executive director of Aging, Disability and Transit Services, in a statement. “With additional funds from the North Carolina Department of Transportation … we hope to provide year-round service to people who need to get to the Free Clinic but have no means of transportation.”
