Danville Public Schools’ central office staff announced Thursday night they would be able to place 13 staff members who were in danger of losing their jobs into new positions.
Juliet Jennings, assistant superintendent for human resources, announced to the School Board that because more than 30 teachers and classified staff have retired this year, her staff has been able to save 13 other employees from being laid off. Those employees were on a recall list if a position became available.
Because division staff had to cut $7.8 million from its 2010-11 budget, they also plan to eliminate 46 positions. But that doesn’t mean 46 people — and Jennings is hoping that by June, any staff members whose position was cut can be placed in another position.
