Lyle Lacy
City Manager Lyle Lacy died Wednesday at his home, according to a news release from the city manager’s office Thursday morning.
“It is with great sadness that we notify you that City Manager Lyle M. Lacy, III passed away yesterday at his home,” the release stated.
His office announced in a news release Feb. 25 that he would be on extended medical leave through March 31. Lacy had intended to resign if he could not return to full service as city manager before then.
Lacy started working for the city as deputy city manager in 1999 and stepped in as interim city manager in June 2008 after Jerry Gwaltney retired. He served as interim until February 2009 and was appointed to city manager March 1, 2009.
In his career, Lacy also served as city manager in Oak Ridge, Tenn.; Marietta, Ga.; Alliance, Neb. and as town manager of Front Royal, Va. before coming to Danville.
Details for Lacy’s memorial service will be released as soon as they are available.
