The Danville metro area saw a drop in unemployment from 12.5 percent in March to 11.6 percent in April, according to Virginia Employment Commission data.
“I think that’s fairly typical that you have a drop from March to April, said Ann Lang, senior economist at the VEC.
The same is true of Virginia, which normally sees people getting back into jobs with seasonal hiring, tourist season preparation and increased building active because of milder weather, she said. Yet, this year, the unemployment rate drop was larger as the state saw gains in professional and business services and other sectors.
