WILLIAMSBURG — David Rockefeller is donating $1 million to help Colonial Williamsburg create an endowment for African-American history research, education and interpretation.

Colonial Williamsburg is conducting a campaign to raise $3 million, which will be combined with a $1 million National Endowment for the Humanities challenge grant to create the $4 million endowment.

Colonial Williamsburg President and CEO Colin Campbell says Rockefeller's donation will encourage others to contribute to the effort.
