The Danville metropolitan area saw 3.1 percent job growth from November 2008 to November 2009, according to the Virginia Employment Commission
Four of Virginia’s 10 metropolitan areas experienced job growth and of these, Danville had the largest gain with 1,200 jobs, according to a VEC news release.
Manufacturing employment was up 800 jobs as workers from a temporary plant shutdown last year were included in this month’s figures, but not the figures from a year ago. The area’s service-providing industries remain unchanged with a loss of 800 jobs.
Total government showed a publishable gain of 100 jobs.
Virginia nonagricultural employment was down by 2 percent from November 2008 to November 2009. That’s still better than the nation’s 3.5 percent rate of job loss.
