CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Harris Teeter grocery store in Danville will close by the end of March, the company says.
Harris Teeter Inc., with headquarters in Matthews, N.C., announced in a news release the Dan-ville Plaza store on Riverside Drive will close by March 30. The decision comes after “careful consideration and strategic market review,” the release stated.
All 30 employees will be offered a position within the company.
Bill Wentz, an oral surgeon of Danville, picked up some deli meat and cereal from Harris Teeter on Tuesday. He shopped regularly at the store ever since it opened in Danville.
He knows the first names of just about all the employees. Wentz hoped they would be able to relocate or find employment.
Wentz likes the store’s meat, cheese and vegetable selection. He said he might have to go to Harris Teeter in Greensboro, N.C.
“I think it’s unfortunate,” Wentz said about the closure. “I’m sorry the community hadn’t supported it enough.”
