Former Rep. Virgil Goode has been showing up at campaign events held by several of the candidates in the June 8 Republican primary in the 5th District.
Goode said last week that he plans to attend a debate in Lynchburg Feb. 27 among the seven candidates at Brookville High School.
“I want to see what they have to say,” he said.
One thing Goode isn’t saying is whether he might become a participant in the race for the seat held by Rep. Tom Perriello, D-5th.
“I haven’t endorsed anyone,” he said Friday.
The day before, the president of Public Policy Polling, in a news release about the group’s rating of 5th District candidates, had said the Republican Party probably would give the nomination to Goode if he only would ask.
Goode declined to respond to the suggestion. “My statement is the same as it was” in July when he said he wouldn’t be a candidate, Goode said, declining to add to, or take away from, speculation that he might become a candidate.
