Goodyear agreement would keep Danville plant open

The local Goodyear workers on Thursday voted against the agreement reached by United Steel Workers and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. on Aug. 29, according to the USW Local 831 Web site.

Local 831 represents employees at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., Goodyear Service store and URW Community Federal Credit Union in Danville. It has about 1,800 members.

About 10,300 members at seven plants, including Danville's, across the country are negotiating a four-year labor agreement with the manufacturer.

The previous three-year labor agreement expired July 18. The contract was extended twice before a tentative settlement was reached on Aug. 29.

Goodyear is Danville’s largest private employer.
