With less than a week before Election Day, Delegate Danny Marshall, R-14th District, maintains a two-to-one lead in money raised over Democratic challenger Seward Anderson during the first three weeks of October.

According to finance reports filed Monday with the State Board of Elections, Marshall raised $137,405 in cash and in-kind donations from Oct. 1 through 21 and spent $61,306. He has $76,100 on hand.

Anderson raised significantly less, with $68,044 in cash and in-kind donations, but spent nearly as much as Marshall$58,948 — leaving him with only $9,096 on hand.

Marshall’s top donations this period included $20,000 from the Dominion Leadership Trust (a Republican PAC for the Virginia House of Delegates), $6,620 from the Realtors Political Action Committee of Virginia and $5,000 from Keswick resident Leslie Gilliam. The majority of Marshall’s expenditures were for media consulting, mail pieces and radio advertising.

Anderson’s top donations included $24,454 in the form of direct mail pieces from the Democratic Party of Virginia, $7,425 in polling and campaign staff costs from the Virginia House Democratic Caucus and $1,000 from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. The majority of Anderson’s expenses included mailing and campaign services.

Between the two, Marshall and Anderson have raised more than $450,000 this election cycle and have spent nearly $370,000.
