Chatham fires town manager

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Chatham Town Council fired Town Manager Mike Jones this week, because the part-time manager “just wasn’t working out,” according to Chatham Mayor George Haley.

Haley said the Town Council “de-funded” the temporary, part-time position, and plans to restructure how the town is managed in the coming months. He said Jones hadn’t done anything in particular wrong, but that a part-time manager might not be what the town needs.

“In my opinion, they may be looking at a permanent, full-time city manager,” Haley said. “Up the road, anyone can apply for the job, including Mike.”

Haley said the 1,338 residents of Chatham don’t pay an excessive amount of taxes, so “we don’t have a lot of money,” but said a full-time town manager may be needed to bring about the changes the Town Council would like to see in the town.

“We are moving forward, and working to improve the looks of our town,” Haley said.
