Police identify Danville shooting victim

An officer collects evidence following a shooting early Thursday morning on Washington Street. Two detectives and two officers returned to the scene later in the morning to search by daylight. The home adjacent to the crime scene also had bullet holes visible in the front of the house.

A Danville man died Thursday morning after police found him on a city road with a gunshot wound, according to a news release from the Danville Police Department.

James Willie Adams, 35, was taken to Danville Regional Medical Center, where he died an hour later.

Police responded to the 1300 block of Washington Street after receiving a shots-fired 911 call about 2:30 a.m. The investigation is ongoing.
