Electrical fire displaces family temporarily

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A short in an electrical panel box caused a fire Saturday evening that has left a family temporarily homeless.

The fire, reported at 6:16 p.m., took place at 216 Charlotte Ave., Acting Assistant Fire Chief B.K. Shields said in a news release.

Firefighters had to pull an outside electrical meter to de-energize the panel box and peel back the wall to fight the fire, Shields said. No one was injured in the blaze that caused moderate damage to the home.

Three engines, one ladder truck and three support vehicles responded to the fire, which was extinguished quickly, Shields said. Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour.

The Red Cross made arrangements for the family to stay elsewhere, Shields said.
