One dead, one hurt in Ruffin wreck

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A Rockingham County Schools maintenance employee is dead and another person in critical condition after a traffic accident Tuesday morning in the Ruffin area, according to Highway Patrol.

Trooper L.N. Johnson said Evie Holt, 34, of Ruffin, was traveling down Guerrant Springs Road when her vehicle ran through the stop sign at the Oregon Hill Road intersection, striking a schools maintenance vehicle driven by Timothy Wilson, 41, of Reidsville.

Wilson’s vehicle overturned, and he was ejected. Johnson said Wilson was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Holt was transferred to Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, where she is in critical condition.

Johnson said speed was not a factor. The main factor, he said, was it appeared that Holt somehow did not see the stop sign. Johnson said charges are pending.

Karen Hyler, public information officer for Rockingham County Schools, said in an e-mail that Wilson had been employed with the school system since October 2004.

Also in the e-mail, she said Wilson’s death is an immeasurable loss to Rockingham County Schools and that Wilson was a very talented, well-rounded man who had a passion for his job and life.
