To the editor:
The police shooting of miniature dachshund was a senseless killing. A small, growling dog running through the yard — do you not have a large foot? Are you able to use any of your other options (pepper spray, Taser or baton)?
No, it was just easier to pull out your gun. Why didn’t you just shoot into the air? This animal was not the size of a bear, and the noise would have scared it. I’m sure you have to learn to make split-second decisions, but a small dog?
I know I can only write how I feel after reading the article. That is all of the information that any of us have. But if this officer is an animal lover, then I’m sure his heart is breaking. Although I would never allow my small dog to be outside alone — not even on a leash — this shooting should never have happened.
