To cope with shaky economic times, the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History has temporarily laid of some employees and decided to close the gift shop.
“The board has had to make some changes to maintain our short term stability and our long term sustainability,” Executive Director Lynne Bjarnesen said Monday.
Bjarnsen said there hadn’t been a notable decline in the number of visitors recently, but the recession is taking its toll on the museum, housed in Sutherlin Mansion.
“Like everyone else,” Bjarnesen said, “it’s a difficult time. All non-profits are (feeling it), just like business are.”
The museum already has laid off five salaried workers.
