Madison-Mayodan Recreation Center offered something a little different for local residents Saturday morning: A chance to learn how to make their own Christmas bows.
“It’s definitely not as easy as it looks,” said instructor Brian Albrecht. “There are a lot of little details like where to twist, how big to make the loops and how much ribbon to use. You even have to think about what fingers to grip with and which to release.”
More than a dozen people showed up for two classes Saturday, eager to learn the secrets of bow making. Sarah Sutton came from Reidsville to take the class.
“I’ve always wanted to learn how to do this, and this was the first class I’ve seen on it,” Sutton said. “The hardest thing to remember is what Brian calls his number one rule: ‘Don’t get frustrated.’”
Albrecht got started tying bows when he worked as a floral designer in Ohio about 25 years ago. Since then, he’s taught classes like the ones held Saturday to share his knowledge.
“I really enjoy teaching these classes,” he said. “It means a lot to people to be able to make their own bows. It really makes the packages special to have that personal touch
