Nine candidates on Reidsville ballot

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A late flurry of filings brought the total number of candidates for this fall’s Reidsville city elections to nine.

Six people are now in the running for two at-large seats on the city council, while three are seeking the mayor’s job currently held by James Festerman.

Donald Gorham, who is presently mayor pro tem, will challenge Festerman. They will be joined on the ballot by local realtor Chuck Faint, who filed shortly before Friday’s noon deadline.

Those seeking council seats include Tom Balsley, Roger Hayes, Caldwell “Bubba” Hobbs III, Richard Johnson, Terresia Scoble and Jeffrey Sykes.
Balsley entered his name into the race Wednesday, Scoble threw her hat in the ring Thursday and Sykes, like Faint, filed Friday morning.

Filing deadlines for all other Rockingham County races were in July.

Elections will be held in Reidsville on Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Early one-stop voting will take place at the Rockingham County Governmental Center in Wentworth from Sept. 17 through Oct. 3. Hours will be 8 a.m. through 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 only.

Eligible voters must be residents of Reidsville by Monday, Sept. 7. The registration deadline is Friday, Sept. 11.

See Wednesday’s edition of The Reidsville Review for more information about the candidates, including a profile of mayoral candidate Chuck Faint.
