A free workshop for people who are considering running for public office has been scheduled for April 23.

“I want to encourage all citizens in this community who have interest in public service to attend the workshop,” Linda Lawrence Dalton, chair of the legislative committee of the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce said. “Whether you have made the decision to put your name on the ballot or are just considering the possibility of running for public office some day, this seminar is designed for you.”

“How to Run for Public Office” will include information about the State Board of Elections and discussions on civic engagement, being an involved candidate and community issues.

Sen. Robert Hurt; Danville Registrar Peggy Petty; Pittsylvania County Commonwealth’s Attorney David Grimes; Danville City Councilman Larry Campbell; and Martha A. Walker, of the Community Viability Office of the Virginia Cooperative Extension, will be the speakers.

The workshop will be held from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m. at Danville Community College’s Regional Center for Advanced Technology & Training, 121 Slayton Ave.

There is no cost to participate, but registration is requested and should be made by April 21 by calling the chamber’s office at (434) 836-6990.
