Since it came out more than a month ago, Pittsylvania County’s latest brochure touting the area’s historic sites and newer destinations has generated positive feedback, according to Laurie Moran, president of the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce.
“It’s been a good (way) to promote the county to people,” Moran said.
She said she’s received dozens of calls from visitors and local people about the brochure.
The county’s old 1998 brochure ran out of copies years ago and had not been updated, Moran said.
The brochure, entitled “Where Southern Charm & Progressive Imagination Live,” highlights the county’s history but also points to its progress. Several items that weren’t around 10 years ago appear in this year’s version.
About 10 bed-and-breakfasts have opened in the county since 1998, Moran said. Other newer area features include, the American Armoured Foundation Tank Museum, Smith Mountain Farm & Stables and Virginia International Raceway, which reopened in 2000. In addition, the historic Gretna Theatre, which closed in the 1950s, was renovated and reopened in 2006.
Climax’s Tomahawk Mill Winery, which began wine production in 1988 after 100 years as a grist mill, gets more promotion than in the old brochure, Moran said.
The Board of Supervisors spent about $4,000 for the design, printing and part of the distribution of the brochures, Moran said.
The brochure was designed by Kim Demont of Vaden & Associates in Danville.
