Supplemental income recipients to get cost of living increase

Social Security and Supplemental Security Income benefit recipients will see a 5.8 percent cost of living increase in 2009, according to a press release.

This is the largest annual increase since 1982. The cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) starts in January for some people and on Dec. 31 for the more than 7 million Supplemental Security Income beneficiaries.
