BUTNER, N.C. -A nurse is recovering after she was severely beaten by a patient this week at a state mental hospital where regulators had said there was a problem with violence.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Wednesday that 38-year-old nurse Lisa McClure was beaten about 2 a.m. Monday at John Umstead Hospital in Butner. The patient broke bones in her face and pulled out clumps of hair.
The newspaper reported that an investigative report said police were seeking a felony assault charge against the 33-year-old patient on the all-male ward, where the staff was all female.
The nurse's husband, Bobby McClure, told the newspaper his wife had been concerned that she might be attacked and repeatedly expressed concerns about staffing on the night shift.
