Future teacher from Danville wins prestigious award

A Danville man who will begin his teaching career in September has won a prestigious award. Amol Patel is one of 33 exeptional college graduates to receive a science fellowship from the Knowles Science Teaching Foundation. He will teach this fall at Heritage High School in Northern Virginia. The fellowship provides a summer stiped for professional development classes and can be for up to five years.

A graduate of the Carlisle School in Martinsville, Patel attended the College of William and Mary intending to become a marine biologist. While there, he decided he would rather teach high school biology.
