While one person is behind bars, Danville police are still searching for another suspect in the April 12 shooting death of 24-year-old Ivory Law.
Kavion Desean Bennett, 19, wanted in the slaying in the White Rock Playground, was found hiding in the Budget Inn at 1228 Piney Forest Road early Monday morning after police received at tip about his location, Lt. Mike Mondul said.
Danville police hostage negotiators were able to get Bennett to leave the room after an hour standoff.
Mondul said another man was found in the room with Bennett. The other man is not a suspect is the case, he said.
Mondul said Bennett was probably in the motel room for about a day. Police feel like he was moving around to avoid capture.
“We’ve been talking to (Bennett) all morning,” Mondul said. “It’s great to help bring justice to Mr. Law.”
The police spokesman was not able to provide specific details of the other suspect believed to be involved in the shooting.
On April 12, officers responded to the 300 block of Cunningham Street after a “shots fired” call.
Officers found Law and a 22-year-old male, both Danville residents, suffering from gunshot wounds, police said.
The victims were transported to the Danville Regional Medical Center. Law died as a result of his injuries.
The other victim was treated at the hospital and later released. His name is being withheld by police.
