A Danville man was arrested on robbery charges following an incident near the Union Street Bridge on Friday, according to police.
Danville police officers responded to a 1:15 p.m. robbery call near 1065 Riverside Drive, according to a news release from the police department.
The victim told the officers he was walking near the bridge when a man approached him and said he had not eaten for two days and asked for spare change.
When he reached for his wallet, the suspect punched him in the face, grabbed cash from the wallet and ran, the victim reported.
According to the incident report, the officers recognized the suspect from the victim’s description, which lead to the arrest of Danny Hicks, 45, of Danville.
He was arrested and charged with robbery.
