UPDATE: Power outage caused by tractor trailer crash

UPDATE: 2:48 p.m., Today at 9:10 a.m., Danville police responded to a vehicle crash at the corner of Poplar and Floyd streets involving a tractor-trailer and a utility pole. After the police investigation concluded, it was determined that William Keesee of High Point, N.C., was backing out of a business there on the corner and struck a guide wire, according to a news release from the police department. The wire pulled down the utility pole, police said. Power service was interrupted to some residents on the south side of town. There was approximately $5,000 in damage done to the pole, and Keesee was charged with improper backing. There are no reported injuries at this time.

ORIGINAL POSTING: 9:57 a.m., WBTM and WAKG are off the air after a truck clipped a pole on Poplar and Floyd streets and knocked out power. Kevin Martin, key accounts manager for Danville Utilities, said 150 customers are without power and some traffic lights are not working. Power should be be restored soon. The accident happened about 9:10 a.m.
