Webb to open district office

U.S. Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., will soon set up a district office in Danville.

Webb announced plans Monday to open the district office here.

Webb’s office will be located at 308 Craghead St., Suite 102-A, in the Danville Historic Tobacco Warehouse District. The office will open sometime in January.

The office will serve residents of Danville, Martinsville, South Boston and surrounding areas.

Webb said in a news release that the Danville office will have a full-time staff to help area residents with federal issues such as Social Security, Medicare benefits, veterans’ benefits, legal immigration, federal student loans and military service.

“I look forward to opening our new office in Danville both to help constituents and to have a permanent presence in the City of Danville,” Webb said. “The accessibility of my Senate staff to Virginians is deeply important to me. The new office will offer Danville-area residents resources and one-on-one assistance with federal issues.

Congressman-elect Tom Perriello, who has a campaign headquarters on Main Street, said he’s glad Webb is moving an office to Danville.

“It’s great to see elected officials — as well as private businesses — investing in Danville,” he said. “It shows how important an area it is for the entire commonwealth that our senator is also opening an office. We’re hoping to work closely with the senator’s office.

Webb’s office made a conscious decision to select a downtown location for the office.

“Our office will be located in a section of downtown with great potential as part of the larger revitalization of Danville,” Webb said. “We are eager to support that effort as part of the community.”

Webb has five additional district offices in Richmond, Roanoke, Virginia Beach, Northern Virginia and Norton.
