I am not trying to be judgmental, I am only stating that we as a people need to change our ways. Humans sin, that is fact. But God has provided a way for us to have forgiveness for those sins, and we as a people need to take advantage of that opportunity through his son, Jesus Christ. I pray that we will.

We had jobs and our so-called leaders allowed these jobs to leave this country. Socialism didn’t work in the USSR, but our so-called leaders are trying it in this country. This is the only country that I know of that punishes citizens for success and rewards failure.
One doesn’t have to like whoever is in office, but we should all work together for the good of the cause. If we’re not going to be part of the solution, let’s not be part of the problem.
The public is watching a shell game being played — and the School Board has a pea under each shell.
When education is such an important issue, the library should remain open. When teachers stress the importance of reading and learning, the library needs to be open. The paper stated that it costs $61,500 a year to maintain the Westover Branch Library. That is a small investment for such a worthwhile and needed service.
If government leaders in Danville believe the city needs more revenue for general government operations, then the leaders need to have all people — not a select few — share equally in that expense.
The administration, faculty and students are to be commended for their excellence in academic achievement. Next time you see an administrator, teacher or student, congratulate them on a job well done. Tell them you are proud of them and their achievement and hard work. Now especially, with all the budget and funding talk, it is important to realize what a vital asset and resource GWHS is to this community.
I could easy fill this letter with facts and stats about how crowded schools lead to various social and scholastic issues, but I won’t. I will, however, focus on helping my son during this transition and keep a watchful eye on my lawmakers, keeping them accountable for their dangerous actions.
The families of autistic children and adults in this community need your support. Many pieces of the puzzle to provide this support are falling into place thanks to the efforts of Averett University, the Carrington Autism Resource Center, the Center for Pediatric Therapies, Building Blocks School, The Madeline Center, The Hughes Center for Exceptional Children, the Rosemont School and the ARC of Southside.
It’s time out for rhetoric — it’s past crunch time. Danville needs our representatives to put us first and not just go-with-the-flow of political stances. Keep Gibson open!
While I can sympathize with the views of the author of "Giving up both security, liberty" (May 17, page A8), Franklin did not suffer a tragedy in the proportion of 9/11, nor did he ever put himself or loved ones on a plane.
I would like to express my gratitude to the many individuals who have contacted me to voice their support for my previous letter. I have found out that I am not alone in my disgust with these supposed officials. Let your voice be heard, before they bankrupt us all.
Eric Holder is a prime example of the corruption and incompetence that is so common with the Obama administration.
If you have doubts just look at the Patriot Act, which in my view destroys our Bill of Rights and look at the TSA that is busy groping all of the grandmothers and children who attempt to board aircraft. Look around you at all of the surveillance equipment focused on you.
The attendees at that meeting will be working together to form our own navigation network to improve cancer survivorship early detection in the region!
Congratulations to the residents of Pittsylvania County for showing they care about their community. The response to the first project of the newly formed Beautification Committee was beyond expectations. The Board of Supervisors could not be more proud of the team effort of so many individuals and groups who participated in our countywide clean-up during the celebration of Earth Week.
Well, the citizens of Danville need to question why the City Council doesn’t know everything about the city’s finances before they sit down and start increasing costs for an already crippled economy? Is City Manager Joe King being kept in the dark or is he just not diligent in his duties?
Now you have nothing to lose by applying for this assistance, because you will never have to worry about paying it back, even if you don’t come back to the area. If you do come back and obtain full time employment, then you will qualify for an employment bonus of up to $2,000 a year, not to exceed the number of years you received money from this program.
If you hate this president so much, please stick to the issues — not false accusations.
If Danville wants to progress, sound financial decisions need to be made if our town is going to economically improve.
The paper said the city manager wanted to charge people who live outside the city limits to use the library. I hope he doesn’t forget that these same people come to Danville to shop, buy their groceries, get their gas and eat at the city restaurants. They do spend a lot of money in the city.
We thank everyone for your support and hope that we can continue to provide this service for our veterans, for God and for country.
We have all been taught since we were kids that nuclear "anything" was evil, was dangerous to ourselves and the environment. We have been inundated with films, songs, speeches and protests. Disregard that noise for now, and think for yourself. Forget the outright attacks on the idea of mining uranium here or anywhere, and then do some research on your own. Think for yourself, question the "authorities" and the naysayers.
If Old King Coal dies, who will take his throne?
When religion enters government, the focus on performance and accountability is too easily lost; and the line between the divine and the politically expedient is too easily blurred.
