Danville will get a visit from yet another chart-topping country crooner Friday when Jason Aldean rolls into town to perform at the second Harvest Jubilee concert of the summer.

What: 2009 Harvest Jubilee concert series

When: Gates open Friday at 6 p.m.; Colt Ford will perform at 7:45 with Jason Aldean at 9

Next concert: The third and final Harvest Jubilee concert will be Sept. 5 with Jamey Johnson and James Otto.

Returning for the second year in a row, Aldean will play at Carrington Pavilion, this year with Colt Ford opening. Aldean’s current single, “Big Green Tractor,” hit Billboard’s Top 20 after seven weeks and is the fastest-rising single of his career. His 2008 single, “She’s Country,” — described as a “shout-out to all the country girls” — reached No. 1 on the country charts.

Aldean released a third album, “Wide Open,” in April and recently teamed up with Grammy winner Bryan Adams for a collaboration on CMT’s “Crossroads.” Aldean will also join forces with megastar Keith Urban for a few dates later this year.

While on tour in Montana earlier this month, the Georgia native took a few minutes for a phone interview with The Scene about his tour, playing with Bryan Adams and what Danville can expect Friday night.

The Scene: What’s going on with the tour?

Jason Aldean: We’re in Montana right now, in the middle of nowhere. We basically tour all year. For me, we go out of one tour right into another one. We work from February to Thanksgiving, then (over the holidays) is basically really the only time we have off all year.

Scene: You recently teamed up with Bryan Adams. Why him?

Aldean: It was for CMT’s Crossroads. They’ve asked us for a couple years to do the show, but they never really had the right person for me. It never was somebody that I thought we would make a good pair with.

I’m a huge fan of (Adams). It was great. Had a chance to do some of his songs and he sang some of mine. In a situation like that, you never know what to expect. Bryan was a class act. Seemed like he was really excited to be there.

Scene: What would be your dream collaboration?

Aldean: One of them was Randy Owen from Alabama, who I’ve had a chance to work with. Cut a song with him on part of the last album. (Also) George Strait.

Scene: You’re connected on tour with big names like Keith Urban, who can fill out an arena. What kinds of venues do you prefer, small ones or huge stadiums?

Aldean: I like parts of both; smaller venues is what I grew up playing. You feel like it’s more of an intimate setting where people are a little closer. But I’m not gonna complain about going out to play in front of 15,000 people either.

Scene: How do you stay grounded?

Aldean: It’s easy. I go home and my wife has a list of stuff for me to do. And I have two kids at home. Out here, you’re a celebrity or whatever and you get home and it’s like, you’re just dad and the husband. They keep me in check pretty good.

Scene: What can Danville expect from your show?

Aldean: We go out and we have a good time. That’s our No. 1 goal. People pay money to be entertained and it’s our job to make sure that happens. Short of going out and actually sitting in the seat with them, we try to get them involved in the show and make sure they feel like it was money well spent.

(My music is) country. It’s my version of it, which is probably a little edgier than most, but no doubt it’s country.
