Peters, Sellers to both compete at Kroger 200
Danville residents Timothy Peters and Peyton Sellers will both be at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday for the Camping World Truck Series Kroger 200. Peters has become a fixture in the top tier of the Camping World Truck Series points standings. The Providence, N.C., native sits ninth, 637 behind leader Ron Hornaday, thanks to three top fives and 11 top 10s in his first full season, which also includes his first pole – which came at Nashville.
“I’ve got a lot of firsts with Red Horse – first pole, first top five – just gives me all the confidence, gives Chad (Kendrick, his crew chief) the confidence and all the team that I get the job done for these guys,” Peters said. “Chip Lofton with Strutmasters.com and Tom DeLoach of Red Horse and Toyota in general have been a big part of my career and I’m ecstatic.”
Sellers raced in 10 of the 13 races he attempted to qualify for in the Nationwide Series with Cardinal Motorsports. If Sellers were to qualify Saturday morning for the race later in the afternoon, it would be his third Truck Series race. He raced in one race in 2007 for Jeff Milburn at Texas Motor Speedway, finishing 31st after starting 34th. This season at Milwaukee, Sellers started one of Mario Gosselin’s start-and-park trucks to gain some lap time prior to the Nationwide race that followed the Truck race.
“We’re driving for Premier Motorsports, a Danville-based team that Timothy drove for earlier this year,” Sellers said. “Timothy went on to a new team, but that team is still in place, so we brought the equipment out to our shop in Danville. We’ve been working on it and look forward to getting out in the No. 17 and put in some good laps here.”
Both Sellers and Peters have ample experience at Martinsville in the Late Model cars. Peters won the Bailey’s 300 in 2005 and has recorded three top 10s in seven Truck races at the 0.526-mile oval.
“It’s huge, especially to have two guys close to us. Peyton has always run well at Martinsville and, obviously, Timothy has too,” Martinsville Speedway president Clay Campbell said. “To have them move up that ladder from Late Models to run the Truck series is good for us. Obviously, the Danville area is a huge draw for us fan-wise and for the people to come out and support those two. Hopefully they do well and it would be great to see local guys succeed at the so-called local track.”
